Icky-Sticky Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

I felt a little nostalgic making popcorn balls and bobbing for apples this Halloween. When I was a wee one, our closest relatives and friends made sure I received a little cash, a popcorn ball and an apple. Today, it's all about the candy.

Don't let the ooey-gooey nature of this recipe scare you. Sticky, for sure, but it's Halloween! Run some hot, soapy water in your sink beforehand and place your empty bowls and utensils in the hot water to soak immediately. Clean up in five minutes tops. I swear!

Popcorn Balls

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups popped popcorn
  • 1/8 cup margarine (2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 22 large marshmallows

Directions:
  1. Melt margarine in medium-sized saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add vanilla, salt and marshmallows.
  3. Stir constantly and heat until marshmallows completely melt and mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Place popcorn in large bowl.
  5. Add marshmallow mixture to popcorn and stir gently to coat.
  6. Lightly grease hands.
  7. Shape mixture into 5 popcorn balls.
  8. Place balls on waxed paper and let stand until firm, about an hour.

Happy Halloween!
Tricia
