How to Make an Indoor Sandbox with Rice, Dry Beans or Oatmeal

Making an indoor sandbox is easy and economical. Watch Kitchen and Dumplings' fourth video for a peek at ours.

What you'll need:
  • A storage container with a tight lid
  • Toys
  • Recycled food cups and containers
  • Scoops
  • Kitchen gadgets
  • Uncooked rice

Fill your storage container with uncooked rice. Keep the rice dry, and it will last for years.

For a colorful sandbox, add a drop of food coloring to uncooked rice and stir. Allow rice to dry before play.

Please note: This toy is recommended for children 3 years and older who do not mouth toys. Parents should supervise preschoolers during play. Do not let children or animals eat rice, because it could cause choking, severe indigestion or worse.

Have fun playing with your food!

Until next time,
Tricia
